I followed the reverse of the procedure above, booting into single-user mode and moving the extensions back, but the computer still doesn't wsd that the extensions are there for use. This means it is not possible to wake from sleep. Of course I've thought about simply moving the HD driver to the holding folder and letting the computer reboot but I'm scared I'll just slide further down a rabbit hole.

Boot with battery disconnected: If it does go to sleep then all I can do is reset it with a second hold on Power. That problem existed even in Linux. Yeah that is an option. I use ASD for all the hardware diagnostics on all the Macs 3s14 hardware issues.

I moved her from Windows a couple of years ago because the laptop only had 4GB RAM and it was pretty slow, and Ubuntu is much faster with limited resources. Thanks, but I have already re-installed the OS from a blank drive, so I 3s48 think this could make any further difference? Previously it used to be possible only on Windows via Bootcamp, but with the recent If it receives information that is out of whack, it will turn the machine off, or make it run very slow as a means to protect itself from damage.

Once you open the DMG file it will mount the disk image on your desktop and you can use disk utility to ads that image to a usb disk and then boot the system with the USB disk to load the diagnostics software.
